This pattern has 3 lace scarves inspired by Elizabeth I,
one of the greatest monarchs of England: Glorianna, Dainty Bess, and Town
and Country. Dainty Bess was a pet name of the queen (for her red hair).
The queen loved finery, and this design reflects her love of those things
as well as her red hair. The stitch pattern is known as pendants. Dainty
Bess is from another nickname of the queen. This particular stitch pattern
was used in some of her silk stockings, the natural cream color a nod to
her reputation as the virgin queen. Town and Country was knit with a
Shetland stitch pattern that looks like the patchwork of fields in the
country side. She was well loved by her subjects, her universal appeal
reflected in this simple and elegant pattern. |
